Claude E. Shannon Award was established by the IEEE Information Theory Society to honor consistent and profound contributions to the field of information theory. Each Shannon Award winner has a chance to present a Shannon Lecture at the IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory. For the first time this award was granted in 1974.
In 1978 Marks Shlemovich PINSKER, an employee of the Institute for Information Transmission Problems, became the fourth Shannon Award winner.
