William Faris (Arizona):
Interpolation Formulas and Cluster Expansions
The interpolation formulas are versions of the fundamental theorem of calculus for functions of several variables obtained by iteration. There is a beautiful and symmetric version of this idea called the "forest formula". It is shown that the natural context for such a formula is that of independent sets in a matroid.
